Don’t Let Disease Steal Your Sight

You rely on your eyes so much, which is why it’s important to take care of them. If left untreated, eye disease can slowly develop over time, often without symptoms. Many patients don’t even realize something is wrong until they have developed permanent vision loss.

The best defense against eye disease is a solid offense. Going for a comprehensive eye exam can allow us to detect early signs of trouble, and craft a tailored treatment plan to preserve your vision.

You may have good vision and eye health currently, but that can change in the blink of an eye. Eye diseases like glaucoma, cataracts, and age-related macular degeneration can progress quickly without detection and treatment. Eye exams can help us pinpoint signs you may be at risk of or developing an eye condition before symptoms occur.

Glaucoma Testing

Glaucoma is a broad term used to describe conditions that damage the optic nerve and is frequently caused by high intraocular pressure (IOP). To help safeguard your vision, all exams performed at Envision Eye Care include glaucoma testing. During these tests, we will measure the pressure inside your eye so that we can detect, and diagnose, glaucoma before patients exhibit symptoms.

Commonly referred to as the “puff-of-air” test, non-contact tonometry (or NCT) measures your intraocular pressure quickly and with minimal discomfort. We’ll have you look at a light inside a machine and blow a small burst of air onto your eye.

This test allows us to accurately gauge your eyes’ resistance to the puff of air, which we use to calculate your intraocular pressure.

We can also use a Goldmann applanation tonometer to measure your intraocular pressure. We’ll give you numbing drops that may make your eyes feel heavy and then have you look into a slit lamp while a soft, flat-tipped cone will gently come in contact with your eye.

This test will measure the force needed to temporarily flatten your cornea, a measurement we use to help calculate your intraocular pressure.

Cataracts Testing

Cataracts occur when the lens in your eye becomes clouded, causing blurred vision. They usually develop due to age or injury, but can also be caused by inherited genetic disorders.

During a comprehensive eye exam, we’ll review your medical history with you to help calculate your chances of developing cataracts. Additionally, we’ll perform a few standard tests during the exam to pinpoint early signs of disease.

Visual acuity testing, along with slit-lamp, and retinal exams, will allow us to see the back of your eye clearly and detect abnormalities.

Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) Testing

Age-related macular degeneration occurs when the middle of the retina (the macula) becomes damaged. This damage causes fuzzy or distorted vision, but unfortunately, this serious condition often doesn’t exhibit symptoms until irreversible damage has already occurred.

We’ll perform a comprehensive eye exam to test for early signs of AMD. One of the most common symptoms of AMD is that the eye will make straight lines appear wavy. To look for signs of AMD, we may send you home with an Amsler grid.

Staff was very rude, when I first walked in I was ignored receptionist helped the woman who came before me and the other receptionist which was a Hispanic lady helped the guy behind me that came after me. After she helped the guy that clearly came after me she said “oh can I help you”. First impression was very bad. After the appointment the guy who was helping look for glasses started laughing because the glasses I had had no anti reflection which I asked for he was making unnecessary comments. Prices are very high for the glasses they have, no name brand glasses no weight to them and cost over $300 a pair. Had to ask for the prescription I paid for.Edit : to the response I never said I had long wait times I said people who came after me were helped first. & prices for glasses at the office are high for not being name brand when you can buy Prada glasses for $200-$300 elsewhere
